UAE Employment Visa Overview
Healthcare professionals in UAE are typically sponsored on an Employment Visa (Article 18) by their employer. The visa is employer-tied — you cannot change jobs without transferring your visa.
Visa validity: 2–3 years (renewable). Cost: Usually paid by employer as part of the package.
Step-by-Step Visa Process
Step 1 — Job Offer & Employment Contract
Receive a formal written job offer and MOL (Ministry of Labour) attested employment contract. Review carefully — this is legally binding in UAE.
Step 2 — Entry Permit
Your employer applies for an Entry Permit (similar to a work permit). You can enter UAE on this permit to begin the residency visa process. Processing: 3–7 working days.
Step 3 — Medical Fitness Test
All employees must pass a medical fitness test at a DHA-approved medical centre. Tested for: Tuberculosis, HIV, Hepatitis B/C, Syphilis. Cost: AED 320–420.
Healthcare professionals with certain communicable diseases cannot be licensed to practise in UAE.
Step 4 — Emirates ID
Register for your Emirates ID at an ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship) office. Bring original passport + entry permit. Processing: 3–5 working days. Cost: AED 100–300.
Step 5 — Residence Visa Stamping
Your employer stamps the residence visa in your passport. This finalises your legal residency status. Processing: 5–10 working days.
